More and more dog owners are making their own dog treats. It is important to know what ingredients are in the food your dogs eats. Here is a great recipe for homemade dog biscuits.
Good Dog Cookies
4 cups buckwheat flour
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/4 cup shredded non-sweetened coconut (optional)
1/2 cup flax seed meal
1/4 cup olive oil
1/2 cup good quality canned dog food, or fresh gound meat, or 2 eggs,
(or 1/2 cup peanut butter or 1/2 cup shredded white cheese)
1 Tablespoon powdered calcium or multi-mineral supplement
1 Tablespoon brewer’s yeast
1 Tablespoon powdered kelp or other seaweed
1/4 Teaspoon salt
Mix all ingredients, slowly adding rice mile or pure water, and knead well to make a stiff dough.
Roll out to 1/4″ thickness on floured baking sheet and score into bite-sized 1 inch squares.
Cook at 375 degrees for 25-25 minutes.
Note: You can find most of these ingredients in any health food store or good supermarket. Ideally, all should be organically certified. Buckwheat is one of the most nutritous grains and is naturally lacking in gluten.
You can also add minced wheat grass.
Try some ginger for car sick dogs, and tumeric for arthritic dogs.
